This essay discusses issues of memory, visual representation, memorialization and transitional justice in post-conflict Kosovo through the example of a striking outdoor exhibition that has graced Kosovo’s capital city of Prishtinë/Priština since 2004. A series of photographs of Kosovo’s ‘missing’ – women, men, young, old – the exhibit straddles the boundaries between art and documentation; demonstration and memorialization; mourning and education. Above all it serves as a thought provoking example of the visual representation of trauma that succeeds in symbolically connecting past and present, victim and survivor, and encouraging transmission from witness to the next generation. http://www.irmgard-coninx-stiftung.de/190.html
