This briefing, focusing on forced displacement from Diyarbakır’s Sur district is based on research conducted in Diyarbakır throughout 2016, including interviews conducted with 26 displaced families and extended families, lawyers, activists and NGOs, the Sur and Diyarbakır Municipalities and the authorities. Amnesty International met with the head prosecutor of Diyarbakır and had meetings with the Governor. Written information provided by the Governor’s Office was particularly helpful for the research and is reflected in this briefing paper. The authorities also granted limited access to the area of Sur under curfew in May and June 2016.
